Parking Together
Groups of people wanting to park their aircraft together will have to arrive together. Such groups will also need to provide their own ground marshal to assist with parking such aircraft. In general, aircraft will be parked as they arrive (otherwise we'll run into space problems - we're expecting a lot of aircraft).
More Information
A meeting was held at Wonderboom for final co-ordination of the EAA organizing Committee and the Emergency Services, Police, Security, Hospitals, Pretoria Fire Brigade, Volunteer Marshallers, Metro Traffic, SAAF Friends of the Museum and Wonderboom Airport Management.
Several of us from the organising Committee for the 2005 ICATA/EAA Wonderboom Airshow were taken on a tour of the airport. The Microlight Runway 11/29 Grass has been raked clear of stones. Despite fairly heavy rains over the last couple of days, the bakkie that 10 of us were riding in hardly marked the runway. There is a lot of parking adjacent to Runway 11/29 Grass for Microlights.
The Microlight Pilots who have submitted their Display Authorisation application forms and intend flying in the mass Microlight/Gyrocopter Fly Past may park their airplanes in the special Microlight Park which runs adjacent and parallel to Runway 06/24. This parking is against the crowd barrier closest to the public viewing access so that the public will have maximum access to oggle the planes without being able to tamper with the aircraft. There is provision for the parking of 30 Microlights in this area.
After landing on the 11/29 Grass runway, clearance must be obtained to taxy to this parking as the taxyway crosses the threshold of Runway 06. Use the Microlight Frequency 129.3MHz or Ground Movement Control, callsign "Ground" on 122.9MHz
A lot of money has been spent on earthworks at Wonderboom for the ICATA/EAA Airshow and all preparations are well advanced.
If you are not flying in to Wonderboom for the Airshow and are arriving by road, be advised that to avoid traffic congestion, you should approach Wonderboom from the eastern side via Zambezi Drive or the N4 Platinum Highway. In both instances follow the Dr Swanepoel Road entrance through Dorrnkloof. There is a massive parking ground prepared near the threshold of the main Runway 29. 20 buses will be running a continuous free service from this parking lot to the main spectator and exhibition area near the Terminal Building.
The parking area near the terminal building is of limited capacity and the access road off the old Warmbaths road is likely to be overloaded with traffic. Only vehicles with special permits will be allowed to pass the Military Barracks entrance.
Remember that on Saturday evening after the air show, a professional fireworks display will take place starting at 7 p.m. This should also dilute the road traffic congestion
