About the Event
The EAA Wonderboom Airshow 2006 (official title) will be very different to any EAA airshow held in the past, in that it will have something for everyone; something new something old, something noisy something quaint, a lot of action. Without detailing the programme (do that and we invite Murphy to the party!), the difference for 2006 is that the show will be divided into two main sessions, the morning session and afternoon session. The morning session will have a distinct EAA flavour with entirely new routines never before seen in SA; there will be pantomimes, flying competitions, trick flying, etc. The afternoon session will have the more traditional airshow routines; formations, jets, Harvards, flypasts, historical, etc. There will be representation from the airlines, but this will be scaled down, so that previous champion aircraft will have pride of place on the apron this airshow. Once again it will be a two day airshow, but the programme will be almost identical for both days, particularly the morning session. Invitations to participate in the airshow have been extended to all EAA Chapters around the country, as well as each of the sections in Aero Club.
The layout has been revised to large extent. The things that worked have been retained, and the problems experienced in the 2005 airshow have been addressed. The things that didn’t work have been dropped. Security has been enhanced, and there will be no beer tent in the spectator area. A new idea here is to set up a “bleacher” a la Oshkosh style – a 300 seater grandstand suitably positioned behind the crowd.
The airshow committee is comprised of a strong team, ensuring an event that builds on the successes of previous shows:

The EAA Wonderboom Airshow 2006 while new and exciting is ambitious. The heart of EAA is its members and the airshow relies heavily on the volunteer principle predominant in EAA. The key to the success of the airshow is the people on the ground – so this is a call for volunteers. Whatever you can do or even think you can do, we need you! What’s in it for you? Besides the fun of being at the heart of the action, you get a free T-shirt and cap, plus we feed you!
