It really is a shame that I am not already retired from my day job so that I could have sufficient time to get these shows going throughout the country. I constantly get e-mails from other parts of the country asking whether we will be doing anything in Cape Town or Durban. Last night we had two people from East London and three from Cape Town who have already booked their seats for next month. There were four more e-mails in my box from locals booking seats which leaves us now with only 58 seats over for next months show on Thursday the 13th of March.
Last nights show, in the words of a number of the audience, was “more than just entertainment – it was education of the most important type for aviators”. The combination of Scully Levin, Prof. Johann Coetzee and Capt. Bruce Rowan was awesome from a pilot’s perspective and I hope that the audio recording that was made will come out well. Tinshack was not available last night so Rudi de Villiers kindly stepped in and, using Tinshack’s computer, made the recording. Unfortunately we didn’t have a headset (as Glen normally does) so we were not sure of what kind of quality we have been able to capture. By the way Glen (Tinshack) Wilson has been transferred by his employer (ATNS) to Nelspruit next month and will not be able to do our recordings anymore. He has however promised that he will have all the CD long player’s edited and ready for sale before he departs so we will at last be able to let you guys have the copies you have been crying for.
Is there anyone who is willing to take over this enormously important job from Glen?? Rudi how about it??
We were once again full and overflowing; on Monday we still had >20 empty seats, on Wednesday morning we had overbooked by twelve seats (i.e. we had 12 people on the waiting list anticipating late cancellations). We had 20 last minute cancellations and were able to accommodate almost all of the late bookings but because people came without making bookings we still had about 8 people sitting on the plastic overflow seating. All this late booking and cancellations is giving me greyer hair! But in the end it’s all worth the effort.
Thank you, not only, to our wonderful Guests and Host but to all the guys who pitched in (some at short notice) and helped: Neville Bõhm, as usual, doing a great job of the Steak and Boerie Rolls, Wayne Estment in the Bar, Deena Gounden on electrics supported by Ron van Lear and his Generator in case of a black-out, Edna Keuchel on Food ticket sales, Rudi de Villiers on recording and finally Anne-Louise on the entrance tickets and raffle ticket sales. Thank you all so much. It’s the team effort that makes it so successful!
Next month will be hosted by the inimitable Karl Jensen and his guest will be the very topical and skillful Captain Trevor Arnold. The pilots who successfully saved the lives of a plane full of passengers, when the engine and aircraft separated, on take-off from Cape Town recently. Bookings are open.
Remember next week on Wednesday the 20th (evening) in the EAA Auditorium at 18h00 for 19h30 is our usual free “Film Show” evening which this month will feature a couple of very interesting Aviation DVD’s including a couple of local ones. More info will follow later in the week.
Best wishes
