July 2008 Talk Show Report Back

This is an old news item which is no longer current. It is kept here for historical purposes.
This is an old news item about the auditorium. It is kept here for historical purposes.

Thursday night saw a new record being set in our little 72 seater auditorium, with 95 people “through the turnstile”. Almost every square inch was occupied by someone on a seat or a cushion. Just under 50 were EAA members but 3 new members signed up on the night.

Many, many thanks must go to General Denis Earp and Test Pilot, Bob Masson, together with Karl Jensen for an evening filled with belly laughter interspersed with moments of absolute awe. These two men had wonderful stories to tell and once again we were left with a feeling that we only scratched the surface.

Here are some of the comments:

“people like these inspire one to greatness..where do you keep finding people of such character?”

“Every show seems to be better than the one before”.

“The one thing that is a constant in my diary is the Talk Show every month”

Booking has already opened for next month’s show on the 10th of July with 35 of the seats for the next show being taken before the end of the interval. The speakers for next month are long overdue. Maj. General Des Barker (retired) – last time we had Gen Barker as a guest was early in 2007 and everyone said “we must get him back again” since then we’ve had umpteen dozen people (who were unaware of his previous appearance) saying “Why don’t you get General Barker??” or “When are you going to get General Barker?” with good reason. Maj. Gen. Barker is arguably the most experienced Test Pilot in the history of the SAAF. Appearing with him as guests will be two other Test Pilots, Ivan Pentz and Johannes “Blokkies” Joubert. The show will be hosted by Eon de Vos, himself an experienced and accomplished aerobatic display pilot, airline captain and a previous guest on the show.
