Starring : Major General Des Barker. (now ex-SAAF) is arguably the most highly experienced test pilot in SAAF history & Ivan Pentz – currently Chief Test Pilot for Denel Aviation. Hosted by EON DE VOS a popular previous guest at a Talk Show last year. EON is a B737 Captain with Comair/ Kulula.

This is an old news item about the auditorium. It is kept here for historical purposes.

It is just possible that we will have four speakers on stage for our Talk Show (next week!) on the 10th July 2008. Two of the people have appeared previously as guests on our Talk Shows and are back by public demand.

At the time of writing we only have 24 seats left.

Major General Des Barker. (now ex-SAAF) is arguably the most highly experienced test pilot in SAAF history. Having qualified as a pilot in the SAAF in 1969, he went on to fly all the jet aircraft on SAAF inventory, from Vampire to Gripen, including the C47 TP, F86 Sabre, Mirage F1 & Cheetah, but excluding the Buccaneer. He also had the opportunity to fly the MiG-29, Aero L-159, BAe Hawk 100, Mirage 2000-5, Lavi, Aermacchi MB-339. Whilst serving as a flying instructor on Impalas, he flew for the National Aerobatic Team and the Silver Falcons. In 1985 he graduated as an experimental test pilot from a prestigious test pilot school in the USA. Thereafter he became involved in a number of high level research and developmental projects. As a display and flight test demonstration pilot on Impala, Canberra, Mirage F1 and Cheetah, he was eminently qualified to author the book “Zero Error Margin – Display Flying Analysed” which was a statistical overview of airshow accidents and incidents worldwide and is currently utilised by air forces and aspirant display pilots worldwide as essential reading.

Ivan Pentz – currently Chief Test Pilot for Denel Aviation, this man’s achievements reads like a Who’s Who in overachievers. Amongst his exploits he also became the most capped Springbok oarsman during the 1980’s and was a member of the Heavyweight Rowing Team at Barcelona Olympics in 1992. From Fighter Controller in 1975 to Chief Test Pilot – Denel Aviation in January 2007. Flying everything from Harvards, Mirages, C130 Hercules to Cheetahs and BAE Hawks. In between all this Ivan attended the International Test Pilot’s School at Cranfield, UK and spent 3 years at Marshall Aerospace, in Cambridge UK, on Project Ebb.

Johannes “Blokkies? Joubert – is a currently instructing on Gripens in Louis Trichardt (may be able to attend)

Host for this Talkshow is EON DE VOS a popular previous guest at a Talk Show last year. EON (a B737 Captain with Comair/ Kulula) is well known to most South Africans as the man who pioneered Aerial ENG (Electronic News Gathering) in SA and the pilot from the Netstar (Vodacom) Traffic Helicopter on TV2 a few years ago. Others know him previously from his days as a Radio announcer and TV personality. Some of us know him for his time in competition aerobatics back in the mid 1990’s when he first won the SA Championships (Intermediate category) in his Pitts S1S and later, twice, won the South African Advanced Aerobatic category as well as a 19th place in the AWACs (Advanced World Aerobatic Championships).
