We are extremely fortunate to have Brigadier General Ken Snowball (SAAF-Retired) as one of our guests this month. A highly decorated man with many awards and honours that include the Southern Cross Decoration and Medal, SA Medal, Military Medal plus many others. He started as a Navigator and finished his illustrious career in 2000 as the “Military Secretary to the Minister of Defence”. His career included service in 35 Squadron (Shackleton Maritime Long Range Patrol), 24 Squadron on Buccaneers in the Angolan Theatre including Liaison Officer to the Portuguese Air Force at Cuito Cuanavale. Other posts include time in the office of the “Administrator General” of SWA and “Military Intelligence Division”.
Together with him on stage will be another ex-SAAF man who has been in the news lately because of his involvement with the Osprey GP4 that broke the “Henshaw Challenge” record. Mike Davis (51) who got his PPL before leaving school, went directly into CFS Dunnottar. During his SAAF career he trained on Harvards and then Impalas at Langebaan where he became the “Station Pilot” or the person responsible for the flight testing of all the snagged aircraft. Later he flew Bosbokke for 42 Squadron and then Cessna 185’s for the Recce’s 11 Squadron. He completed 3 tours “in the bush” – a loose term used to describe the war in Angola. Since leaving the Air Force he has spent much time building, test flying and proof flying Experimental Aircraft, the last of which holds the “Stobbart Challenge” Record.
Topping off the bill is our old favourite Karl Jensen as Talk Show Host..
