Talk show info: 11-Mar-10

Featuring Dave Tayler (Harvard and SAA flyer) and Louis Nel (RAF amd SAA flyer). Hosted by Karl Jensen. Booking essential. 18:30 for 19:30.

This is an old news item about the auditorium. It is kept here for historical purposes.

And already we have 20 seats gone!

Yet one more pair of legendary aviators to educate and entertain us.

Dave Tayler started flying at CFS Dunnottar after matriculating in Durban in 1959. He joined SAA in 1968, but remained with 40 Squadron Citizen Force on Harvards until 1982. Having flown most of SAA’s aircraft, he ended his SAA career as Fleet Captain Training on B747 Classics before his retirement from SAA in 2001. Post SAA, Dave has carried out contract training for Comair and was the B737 Fleet Captain for Nationwide before that airline’s unfortunate demise. and that’s just a the tip of the iceberg where this great aviator is concerned.

Louis Nel matriculated at Pretoria Boys High in 1954 and went directly to the RAF College at Cranwell in the UK, where he trained on Jet Provosts and Vampires. He then served with RAF 213 Squadron based at Bruggen in Germany on Canberra Low Level interdictors. His next post was on Vulcan MK2 Nuclear Bombers with 83 Squadron at RAF Scampton (the same address at the “Dam Busters”). In 1970 he joined SAA where he spent the next 22 years flying various Boeing airliners.
