Greetings to all the flying fraternity. The latest info for the upcoming month. At our usual monthly meeting held at Grand Central (many thanks to John Reeder for allowing use of his facility, he was away) we started early because the organisers of the Rustenburg Fun and Sun pilots show needed to get their ducks in a row. This has been done and I have no doubt that this year’s show will be an extremely good one, you gotta be there. On this note, if any of you members have an old trophy that is supposed to be circulated annually, please, please let me have it as son as possible. The dates are 28-30th September. We want the support of as many of the members as possible.
Our AGM is coming up and will be on the 3rd of October. I would like as many members as possible to be at this meeting. We have nominations and seconds for the following:
- Chairman: Courtney Watson
- Vice Chairman: Karl Jenson
- Safety Officer: Neville Böhm
- Scribe: Trixie Heron
- Secretary: Wolfgang Vornbaum
Of course you can nominate anyone else if you wish. Let me know immediately (on 011 468 1546).
On Saturday 13 October we have our annual dinner dance. This year it will be held at Pappachinos on the corner of Wanton and Whisken road in Midrand (near Crowthorne corner). The venue is great, the food on offer is really very nice, and I am sure that it will prove a memorable occasion. The tickets are available from Ron van Lear at 0114681546 or Wayne Estment at 0114359804. The price has been kept at the amazing low price of R120-00 ea. We have a limit of 75 seats so get your booking in early.
Lastly and most important, there is a request / proposal that EAA chapter 322 loan an amount of R90 000 to the auditorium land for the purpose of putting a deposit on the land that Rand airport has agreed to sell us (at below the going rate). We definitely want to take up this offer and will need the initial amount and a lot more (in total we will need some R500 000). We already have the auditorium and will have to build a hangar/office space etc. A few of the members have already pledged an extra R40 000. I would encourage any person who would like to contribute to this project to do so immediately. If you have any input or objection let me know immediately.
Most of you know that EWAA has tried for many years to get a place of its own and this place/venue is ideal. It will serve the needs of all of EAA members countrywide and be a rallying point for future growth. The existing EAA structures do not have sufficient money to develop this project but before we even start we are on a winning ticket because the going price for land at this venue is higher than the special deal that we have been offered. I believe that we must take the deal and run with it.
Please call me if you think that you can help in any way with this project.
Regards to you all and safe flying.
Ron Van Lear
