My Evan's VP-1

Just before my 33rd birthday, I got the info that there was a fuselage of a VP-1 for sale out in Alberton for R1500, I went onto the internet and decided to have a look and see what this plane looked like, well after much thought and deliberation I decided to go for it. I collected the incomplete fuzz from the owner and took the trip home,

VP-1 fuzelage

She had a nose wheel on a rudder in place and a loose Horizontal Stab, what have I done have I just wasted my money or what, my wife is goanna kill me.

One year + later after much rebuilding and remodeling and removing the shortcuts taken by the previous builder I have now got the following to show for a Years + work: - Complete instrument panel (oil Pressure, Oil Temp, ASI, ALT, Rev + Hobbs)

VP-1 Cockpit

The Above Pic is outdated yes but it will give you a good idea of what it looks like.

I have rebuilt the aft bulkhead after realizing that the previous builder use insulating foam to fill the gaps and not a solid birch block.

The Tail wheel is from a book trolley I was able to selvage before they tossed everything away, it has roller bearings and is rubber on the outside, I have two spare just in case.

Yes those are spring steel blades 6mm X 45mm wide, double blade (R40.00) with a hardened aluminum plate to stop it sliding around and bolted to the fuzz from underneath.

The main undercarriage is also spring steel 10mm by the rest of the VP specs, yes it is heavier but I would rather have this bolted to the bottom of my fuzz than the alu one and have a ground loop. The alu UC has the tendency to bend inwards.

The fuel tank was swapped for the front wheel where Adrian Schutte wanted to convert his VP1 to Trike UC, this tank was sitting one side in his hangar and he said we could swap, it was a bit narrow for my fuzz, but with a bit of modification it started to fit very nicely, it is larger than the original size, but still the same design.
